Computer Technology in 2000

Last year, I made some predictions about the state of computers in the year 2000.  I have now refined the predictions into a set of ranges. These predictions are based on current technology advancement rates, with a generous bonus due to the fact that technology advancements are growing non-linearly. Finally, I adjust the value into a range which matches typical values (powers of 2 for RAM, for instance).

I predict that you will be able to purchase 40 to 400 Gb of hard disk for $600. Standard RAM on new system will be 64-640 Mb. What I mean by that is the middle-of-the-road machine for home use (ie the most common option for a new home computer). Obviously low-end systems will be outfitted with less, and high-end with more.

Let's see how close I am in 2000.
